History
The Meat Shoppe, Inc. is a 27 year old, on- and off-premise catering business founded by Rick and Judy Keller in 1984. Rick is a master meat cutter and has been cutting since 1974. This experience allows Rick to process all the steaks, roasts and ground chuck fresh for the Meat Shoppe menu.
In 1991, the Meat Shoppe opened it’s first banquet catering location. Until that time all the meals had to be served at the client’s location.
In 1993, the Meat Shoppe was awarded the exclusive catering contract for The Gering Civic Center.
In 1998, The Meat Shoppe took over as private Contract Managers for the Civic Center.
Our location in the Gering Civic Center allows us to host groups from 10 to 700. The 17 year-old Civic Center averages more than 60,000 attendees per year in the City of Gering. In 2010, the Civic Center completed an expansion and remodel. We will also cater your special event at your office, home or event site. The largest catered event was the American Cancer Society's fundraiser, the 2007 Cattleman's Ball. We served prime rib and the trimmings to 3250 attendees in just 32 minutes. We have a professional staff to provide fine food and excellent service for your next special event. The ice sculptures are created by Rick Keller for your unique event and the design is only limited by your imagination. At the Meat Shoppe, only the finest and freshest ingredients are used. Once your menu is selected, our cook's go to work orchestrating every detail, with your vision in mind. It might involve selecting Nebraska Steaks and Beef or getting locally baked, aromatic breads and delicate pastries...the result is a culinary experience which excites all the senses.
